Sprinkled With Love

Welcome to Sprinkled With Love! I started this blog in 2009 when I started taking Wilton cake decorating classes, as a way to share my decorated cakes with others. Since then my family & friends have kept me busy creating birthday cakes, wedding cakes & more. Sprinkled with love has grown to be so much more since then. Please take a look around to see what I have been up to, and remember, share some love and leave a comment!

Norfolk, Virginia

This season, we have been living in Norfolk, Virginia.  I am so sad that we will soon be saying goodbye to what has been our home for the last eight months. We have met so many wonderful people and had so may great experiences.  We have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our time in Virginia and hope to be able to visit again soon.  Even during the winter months, there is so much to see and do in this area.  I highly recommend it to everyone!

The Scope, where the Norfolk Admirals hockey team plays, is located close to the downtown.  A new apartment complex had just been completed right next door called the Monticello Station Apartments, so a lot of the team decided to stay there.  It has treated us very well, and would recommend it to others.  They have a nice gym, and an outdoor pool, which I am sure would be great on a hot day.  They also have bbq's and an outdoor fireplace that we have enjoyed many nights.  There are lots of great restaurants and clubs close by, as well as the McArthur Center full of great stores and a movie theatre.

Sweet and Sour Pork Chops

We eat a lot of meat in our family, and I will be the first to admit that sometimes I cook the same meals over and over.  This year I am making an effort to try new recipes, and so far my husband has enjoyed my choices.
Normally when I make pork chops, I fry them up and then throw them in a casserole dish with some mushroom soup.  While we always enjoy this, I was so excited when I found this recipe for Sweet and Sour Pork Chops.  It is super easy too!

Sweet and Sour Pork Chops
Source: Adapted from Allrecipes

Ingredients:
8 boneless pork loin chops, cut 1/4 inch thick
Montreal Steak Spice, for seasoning
3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce

Directions:
1. Fry the pork chops until thoroughly cooked.  Season with Montreal Steak Spice or another seasoning of your choice.
2. In a bowl, combine the remaining three ingredients and stir together.
3. Pour over the pork chops and simmer on low for 5-8 minutes.

We served it on rice with esparagus.
 Mmmm!
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

I would love to know, what is your favourite Pork Chop Recipe?

Turtle Ice Cream Pie

What tastes better on a hot summer's day then ice cream?  I love the chocolate candy Turtles, so when I recently came across a recipe for Turtle Ice Cream Pie, I knew that I had to try it.
I will start by saying that this dessert was a lot of work and very time consuming, so do not plan on making it last minute.  Give yourself at least two days, as it needs a lot of time to freeze in between steps.  Trust me that the end result will be worth it and your taste buds will be throwing a party in your mouth.  It is amazing!

Pecan Pie Bars

My husband loves pecan tarts, so when I came across this recipe for Pecan Pie Bars, I knew that I had to try them out.  They were easy to make and tasted great.

Chicago, Illinois

One of the best things about living in Rockford for a season was the fact that Chicago was just a short drive away.  I was fortunate to make several trips into this wonderful city during our time in Illinois, and thought I would share a few of the things that we did while there.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I was so excited when we moved to Oklahoma City in the fall of 2011.  I was looking forward to a new adventure in a part of the US that I had never been to before, plus I heard that the weather was pretty awesome too!

We lived at The Lincoln at Central Park and enjoyed it a lot.  There were two gyms, two swimming pools, several bbq's, a pool table and a little dog park.  We lived in a two bedroom that was spacious and very reasonably priced.  Our friends lived in a three bedroom and it was really nice as well.

Rockford, Illinois

We lived in Rockford during the 2009/2010 hockey season at the Pembrook Place Apartments.  It was a nice, quiet, residential area.  There was a nice little gym facility as well as an outdoor pool.  Since we were there during the winter, we sadly did not get to take advantage of the pool, but it was a nice outdoor space.

I enjoyed Rockford in that everything was easy to get to.  Having lived in Toronto the year before, it was nice to be in a place that I felt comfortable navigating my own way around from day one.  The CherryVale Mall was a great place to spend an afternoon, and a little money!   There are lots of great stores to choose from, with a little bit for everyone.

Tampa Bay, Florida

In March 2009, my husband was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Since we were only in Tampa for a short time, we stayed at a hotel until the end of the season.  We stayed at the Westin Harbour Island.  The staff was super friendly, we were within walking distance to everything that we needed and we had a great view from our room.

Toronto, ON

As some of you may know, my husband is a hockey player, so we move a lot.  Since we got married in 2008, we have lived in Toronto, Ontario; Rockford, Illinois; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and we currently live in Norfolk, Virginia.  Each summer we return home to Alberta.

Over the coming week, I am going to share a little about what I loved from each spot.

I will start with our first home, Toronto, Ontario.  We lived in a condo building at Fort York Blvd, and loved it.  We had a great gym and swimming pool and check out the view from our window!

Promoting Sprinkled With Love!

I recently won a set of stickers and a set of business cards from two different giveaways that I entered.  I created the designs myself, and then sent them off to the companies.  My stickers are getting made by Print Runner and I am so excited because they shipped today!  I can't wait to receive them.  My business cards are through UPrinting and I just ordered them tonight so it will be about 2 weeks before I receive them.  I used the design of the sticker as the front of my business card and then added  little more information to the back.
