Day 7 of our Maui adventure included a trip to the Iao Valley State Park located in Central Maui, just west of Wailuku. This 4000-acre park is home to the Iao Needle, one of Maui's most recognizable landmarks. Not only is it beautiful, Iao Valley is considered sacred due to its historical significance. In 1790, King Kamehameh I fought in the Battle of Kepaniwai, defeating Maui's army in order to unite the islands, and ultimately changed Hawaiian history.

We thoroughly enjoyed our hike through this beautiful area. The mountains are gorgeous and there is a little garden area with taro ponds where you can play checkers or stop to take some pictures. We also saw people swimming in the stream. It is often cloudy and rainy here, so go early in the morning and make sure to check the weather before making the trek. This spot is definately worth a visit!
Where is your favourite hiking spot? Have you ever been to Iao Valley?
